Haka! @ Porto, Maus Habitos
Haka! Me and my new project with Nástio were in Porto last week, for another poetic slam. I wanted really bad to do the show, I called the spot myself, Maus Habitos, talk with Daniel to book me, got a very small money for it.
Sometimes it's important for us to put this show rolling. I hate rehearsal. I only can do that when I have gigs, but I like to do some small gigs and experiment some new ideas.
The week approached and we talked about getting together and thought about what to do in Porto but in the last minute our double bass player couldn't make it so I had to call PZ two days before the performance and beg for him to drop some sonic landscapes for us to represent some words. I love that kind of challenge and I love the people that are up for this kind of challenges. HAKA Salutes you PZ.

What's wrong with beautiful girls? Part 1
Why are all beautiful girls that I know always late for meetings? Nástio and me had this crazy idea of inviting an Asian girl for our next show in Lisbon but the thing is that it's really difficult to meet Asian people and specially Asian girls. I didn't go to restaurants, I was afraid to find some kung fu father or brother so I decided to handle it professionally and started to look into all the model agencies, castings agencies and nada, I discovered some films done in Portugal with Chinese actresses but through them I couldn't find anyone. Then I remembered that not so long ago I went to a Hip Hop party and I saw an Asian girl with all the boys on top of her. I called one of those cats and finally got her phone number. Half Japanese and half German, born in brazil but living in Lisbon. Very kind and gentle on the phone, we decided to meet to talk about the idea of the show... All good, beside the 3 hours waiting!!!
I'm in Newcastle, UK touring with BSS. It's hard to keep this blog updated.

No Hats Allowed Here!
Monday night (26/11) at the Lisbon Casino, Nicole and Soul Investigators did a beautiful concert, soulful and funky the rhythm sessions was killing it. Didier Selin on the bass is a Bad Man! also Antti Maattanen on the organ! Pity I couldn't film or photograph (casino rules) I even had to take off my funky British hat. Don't get me wrong but I was the funkiest dude in the house and they ask me to take off my hat! I'm bringing the street glamour back, don't U know that? shame!

I would love that everybody could speak portuguese. Nástio is bringing some fresh ideas to this movement, some people like to call it lusophonia. I prefer to call it HAKA! somebody is doing it without waiting for the artistic salvation that sometimes the countries that don't speak English do.

Soul and Funk Nicole Wills and Soul Investigators
Just got back from Porto, a city in the north of Portugal, 3 hour by train from Lisbon. Went there with my poet partner. Nástio for a spoken word slam. Soon I will drop some images and sounds from that night. This words now are for the Soul Investigators. Soon I got out of the train I went to meet then and took them for lunch, in a plaza near my house, sun, fish, wine and beers, sometimes it's hard to believe that we are in the winter here in Lisbon. The youtube link is from Nicole Willis and the boys. Looking fwd to see them live tomorrow.

Stop Doing That!
I appreciate when the people come to us after the performance showing some love for our work. But there are some limits. If you love someone's work and you want them desperately to know that, please read this! Nobody likes to have this kind of conversations while they are at the toilet. I respect the love but man! Over there it's just me and my lil' (it's not that little but you know what i mean). Anyway, it's me and him going to this personal thing, we don't what to share this moment with anyone else, at least not with a stranger that comes to you after taking a piss and starts talking how great you are and on top of that, those guys love to shake your hand and when they notice you are holding something else they just touch your shoulder in other words, they clean or dry their hands on your t-shirt. I HATE THAT! me and every one else with common sense. PLEASE STOP DOING THAT!
