It’s no secret that we love PAUS around here. Their debut EP ‘É Uma Água’ is still one of our favorite Portuguese records ever, and their powerful new album further confirms that they are here to stay. However, we believe that if you haven’t seen Makoto Yagyu, Joaquim Albergaria, João Pereira and Hélio Morais live on stage, you haven’t really listened to PAUS yet. It’s one of those bands that just comes alive in front of an audience, with positively mesmerizing results.

That’s why we are so happy to announce that the boys will be playing on the main stage of the renowned Optimus Alive festival, which takes place in Lisbon, from July 13th to the 15th. It will be huge and you know it.

A little before that, the guys told us they will be heading North to play a couple of shows in the Portuguese cities of Guarda, Maia and Arcos de Valdevez, and you can learn all about it in the band’s Facebook page. You can’t afford to miss it.

You’ve first met PAUS through the mesmerizing ‘É Uma Água’ EP we released last year, but now the unclassifiable yet disarming style of this Lisbon quartet is back with a full fledged album, released last monday. The name? ’PAUS’, obviously.

Makoto Yagyu, Joaquim Albergaria, João Pereira and Hélio Morais are faithfully sticking with their captivating formula on the new record: “Siamese drums, a bass bigger than your mom and keys that make you feel things”. Rarely has such a vague description of a band’s sound been so accurate. For the duration of eight new tracks, the guys take us on an intense journey of rhythm and color that further cement PAUS‘ reputation as a force of nature in Lisbon’s musical landscape. But we’ll let them explain everything:

“We’ve made a record. We’ve made it because we take great pleasure from playing together and having music flow through us and talk to us. We’ve made a record because we believe music is the true universal language. We’ve made a record because we wanted to have more songs to play live, to share with everyone who joins us so we can all be together.”

In this spirit of togetherness the guys have planned two concerts where they’ll share their new songs with us. The first one is tomorrow, October 26th, at the Lux club in Lisbon, and the second one will be on November 3rd, at the Hardclub in Oporto. We’ve been waiting for a long time to bring the Enchufada Lisbon bandwagon to London. With Jupiter and Uranus in the right position we finally did it last Saturday, the 29th of january.

The venue was XOYO, home of worldwide celebrated residency’s like Bugged Out and the line up included Buraka Som Sistema, Zombies For Money, PAUS and our newest rising star Diamond Bass.

Man… Are we glad we waited for the right moment…

The night turned out to be one of the craziest club experiences we ever had. Pre sale tickets were sold out a week before the show and the last few remaining tickets vanished from the door in 30 minutes… the mood was set and all the artists delivered legendary performances!

6 amazing hours of music celebrated by both the artists and the audience, including crowd surfing, several stage invasions and a “stripper” (at least that’s what she told us she was) who decided to come up on stage and “dance” (yes it did happen) twice! 2010 was a great year for us with lots of new music and projects. So this year can’t be different. PAUS and BURAKA SOM SISTEMA are working on new albums, we have great news from HARD ASS SESSIONS, new stuff from new artists and lots more…

So both our bands are working on new albums to be released this year. After 2 years of intense touring all over the world, as a group or solo artists (J-WOW just came back from his own North America Tour), Buraka Som Sistema moved their recording studio and went to the mountains in southern Portugal to work on what will be “Black Diamond” sucessor. And if you’re in London, you can’t miss them at XOYO on January 29. The boys will be playing a one night only DJ/MC set and then they’re back in the studio again….

As for PAUS this will be the band’s debut album. With the release of their EP, “É uma água” on Enchufada, and their super energetic live shows they were quickly hailed as one the of the country’s biggest music revelations of 2010, playing at all major festivals and making their way to some of the most prestigious end of the year best album lists. Wich means the expectations are pretty high.

We’ll also release Diamond Bass debut EP on Enchufada, J-WOW’s new single and more will follow. Diamond Bass followed us on almost everything we did in 2010. We had him as a guest in our E-RADIO, he played on our stage at OPTIMUS ALIVE’10 FESTIVAL, and at our first HARD ASS SESSIONS party so it’s no surprise we kick off the new year releasing his debut single through Enchufada Records. And he’s also joining Buraka at XOYO with PAUS and Zombies for Money later this month!

We’ll continue to challange musicians and producers to create original songs, showing us their interpretation of that so called rhythm that is Kuduro, aka, the HARD ASS SESSIONS. Plus we’ll release a best of, both physical and digital format, with almost every track from previous editions.

Last year we also presented E-SPAM including songs from Orelha Negra and PAUS, bands who have since then assumed an important role in the Portuguese music scene as well as debuting Buraka Som Sistema‘s song, Restless. In April we’ll release E-SPAM002.

PAUS is a Portuguese band from Lisbon.

Trying to make something different from their past rock bands, these four guys decided to try a new approach to dance music using rock instruments and a bizarre siamese drum kit, where two drummers, connected by the same bass drum, face each other the whole time. In their own words, the result is “a Siamese drum, a bass fatter than your mom and synths that make you feel things”. It’s all about rhythm with layers of synths, basses and vocal choirs, and it’ll make you move your hips.

They are finally getting out of the country and heading to London’s ever growing XOYO club to perform as guests on a night curated by Buraka Som Sistema on the 29th of January. This will be their first foreign experience, so be sure to catch them.

Buraka are kicking off 2011 with a special night at XOYO in London. The boys will be in London for a recording session to work on material for their new album, to be released this year, and like you can read on the clubs website “(…) never ones to miss out on an opportunity, we’ve decided to throw a party.”
Buraka will be taking over XOYO for one night only (Jan 29) with a DJ/MC show and they bring special guests from Portugal – PAUS and Diamond Bass, both with projects to be release through Enchufada this year.

2010 was an important turning point for Enchufada: we transformed from a ghost company behind the group Buraka Som Sistema, operating mainly in Portugal, into a proper label and agency, breaking new artists and presenting them to the (our) world, in all sorts of formats and shapes while gaining a considerable amount of presence in some of the main music channels around.

We started of with E-SPAM 001, a compilation where we presented a lot of new artists, including Youthless and PAUS (that ended up releasing one of the most important EP’s in the history of Enchufada) but also concluded an important cycle for some of the artists who had previously released full length albums like Buraka Som Sistema and Macacos do Chinês.

From there we developed the release of the whole Hard Ass Sessions series, that featured too many names to mention, and keeps on evolving more and more (and more), transporting the Kuduro sound into a totally new stratosphere. Paralel to all that we’ve had 3 handpicked single releases from Roulet, J-WOW and T.Williams all exploring what music is going to sound like in a Future near you…

We also had festival madness and a loooots of shows from our acts, including our own stage at Optimus Alive in Lisbon, where PAUS presented their EP “É uma água” in what would become a legendary concert and some other events where we had the pleasure to be joined by friends such as Sinden, Benga, Douster, Laidback Luke, Wildlife!, Roska, Nic Sarno, and the list goes on and on!
