Yes, it’s spam! No, you don’t want to delete it. Declare it safe and click forward.
We had two ways of doing this:
Getting a trendy concept to justify the fact that we decided to put these projects all together or simply be honest and tell what really made us do it.
We chose the second one.
No concept. No adjective verbiage.
Just the music we like to hear and that makes us nervous in a good way.
This is E-SPAM.

Time Out

In this first edition we decided to put together artists from Lisbon to Luanda. Like we said before, there’s no concept…Just music. We have Buraka Som Sistema, Orelha Negra, PAUS, Dj Znobia, Coca o F.S.M., Roulet and many more. The compilation is now available on the usual digital stores, after been distributed alongside with BLITZ Magazine.
Here’s the line-up (in Blitz)
1. PAUS “Mudo e Surdo”
PAUS puts Joaquim Albergaria (ex-Vicious Five), Hélio Morais (Linda Martini, If Lucy Fell), Makoto (Riding Pânico, If Lucy Fell) and Shela (If Lucy Fell) together with a Siamese drum and they do whatever comes to their minds. The first result of these spontaneous compositions is “Mudo e Surdo”, a strong song.
2. BURAKA SOM SISTEMA “Restless”
They’re one of the biggest revelations of the music that comes out of Portugal in the last years. And they’re taking over the rest of the world as well, step by step. After the EP From Buraka to the World and the album Black Diamond they keep digging their Progressive Kuduro with this infectious “Restless”.
3. ORELHA NEGRA “Blessed”
Blessed with an admirable capacity of working Hip-Hop with soul and dress it as Blues Orelha Negra evoke the masters from the past to show how present music can and should be fresh. “Blessed” is a great example of the rhythmic sense and inventive capacity these Lisbon boys can come out with.
4. ROULET “Kitamanda”
Single man project (a young one) Roulet takes over urban rhythms and applies them big style to the dance floor. “Kitamanda” is all about urgency and evolves very well, from an intense melody to a danceable adventure that doesn’t say no to afro-explosives beats.
5. DJ RIOT “Mermaid Dub”
Alone without his Buraka Som Sistema Dj Riot, AKA Rui Pité, bets on some choky dub beats and ambiences to let some slight reggae appointments and give voice to this incantatory “Mermaid Dub”.
6. 1-UIK PROJECT “Brada”
The project that brought Enchufada to the world comes back with a song that incorporates Kalaf’s poetry (and voice) again on a base that travels from Jazz and Soul with some typical Portuguese appointments. “Brada” is perfect for a cozy and intimate Lisbon end of the day.
7. BURAKA SOM SISTEMA “Luanda Lisboa” (Nic Sarno RMX)
Using the bridge they built between Portugal and Angola, Buraka Som Sistema gave their “Luanda Lisboa” featuring Dj Znobia to the Italian Nic Sarno. The result is a remix that dissolves cultural differences and makes bodies dance vigorously.
8. DJ ZNOBIA “Pausa”
Born in Angola and an assumed self-taught DJ Znobia takes the Kuduro that runs in his veins to different paths with this “Pausa”. Nervous and irresistible this song crosses the Atlantic in to Brazil to add some slight Carioca Funk influences.
9. J-WOW “Off with Yo Heads” feat. Aloe Blacc
Buraka’s Lil’Jon alter-ego, J WOW – that has a beautiful Fever Ray remix (Karin Dreijers solo Project from The Knife) – let’s his imagination flow to pimp His Hip-Hop in “Off With Yo Heads”, sang by the Californian Aloe Blacc, with some high velocity rhythms.
10. OCTA PUSH “Meninas”
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke included one of their songs on his Halloween top and have already been complemented in international magazines such as Wire or DJMag. The Portuguese duo Octa Push makes you dance until you fall apart with this intrigue and elegant song “Meninas” – an explosive mix between dub and afrobeat.
11. YOUTHLESS “Good Hunters”
Youthless are Sebastiano Ferranti and Alex Klimovitsky (both ex-Three and a Quarter) and they split time between Lisbon and London. After recording their EP Telemachy with Rory Brattwell (Test Icicles), the band decided to go to work and give us the danceable “Good Hunters”, an electro-rock lesson.
12. DJ ZNOBIA “Me Batem” (Baobinga & I.D. RMX)
The serpentine melodies and warrior vocals of this remix give some new clothes to “Me Batem” from the Angolan DJ Znobia. Baobinga & I.D., a duo based in the UK, are the authors of this remix and ascended to the top of Breakbeat world in 2007 with the album The Big Monster.
13. MACACOS DO CHINÊS “Babilónia”
The multicultural Macacos do Chinês are no longer unknown: they presented themselves to the world with their EP Plutão and released their debut full length – Ruídos Reais, last year. “Babilónia” is all about suburban history and gives you a free trip with signal problems on their cellular phone to Babilónia’s shopping mall in Amadora.
14. COCA o F.S.M. “Imagina Só”
Straight from Luanda, Coca o F.S.M, that last year colaborated with 1-Week Project, presents himself with “Imagina Só”, a song that puts his sweet jazzy tone voice with chill out ambiences that were born from the sound of waves.
