Welding together contemporary dance music and traditional Angolan kuduro isn’t easy by any stretch, but Portugese act Buraka Som Sistema actually pull it off with ‘Tira O Pe’, and do it without a hint of arrogance. The framework of ‘Tira O Pe’ is still distinctly kuduro, but the sounds – rich bass, bubblin synthesizers and choppy drums are far more recent. The set of remixers don’t have it so easy, and the fragile rhythms of the original are lost in many of the treatments, that’s not to say they don’t work; far from it, but to work on both levels at once is pretty difficult. The Roby Howler mix probably manages it best, giving the track an almost footwork-like shuffle and retaining the ghosts of the original mix while giving it an extra dancefloor push. The good people at SPIN magazine said that “you haven’t seen an audience going wild until you’ve seen the way crowds lose their shit to Buraka Som Sistema“, and who are we to say otherwise? If you’ve been to one of their explosive live shows you probably know what they’re talking about, but if you haven’t you can’t miss Buraka‘s latest video for the club anthem Tira o Pe, the third single off their latest album ‘Komba’.

The recipe consists on that globalized bass cocktail we’ve come to know and love, but with a darker minimalistic twist that’s driving crowds mad on every tour stop so far. The folks at SPIN even went so far as to say it has “the sickest breakdown in dance music right now”.

Here at the Enchufada headquarters we’re getting pretty excited about our upcoming ‘Hard Ass Compilation’, a selection of Buraka‘s founding member J-WOW‘s favorite tracks from the Hard Ass Sessions series. To celebrate the release of this amazing collection of tunes that expanded the kuduro universe and shot the genre to outer space and back, we just had to throw a huge party. Or maybe four.

After more than one year of unforgettable parties under the Hard Ass Sessions banner, our bimonthly residency at Lisbon’s #1 club – Lux Frágil – will finally go international as we bring the tropical fever to Europe’s dancefloors. We’re calling all globalized bass lovers in Barcelona, Lisbon, London and Budapest to come feel the heat with a host of incredible DJs like Cardopusher, Pacheko, Congorock, DJ Marfox, DJ Nervoso, Boogaloo, Mélé, Seiji and Monki, as well as our own party-starter J-WOW.

Since Lisbon is our hometown and Lux is one of the most amazing clubs we’ve ever had the privilege of playing at, we’ve prepared something extra-special for May 25th, which will be the official compilation release party. Taking advantage of Buraka Som Sistema‘s introduction of kuduro as part of the global musical landscape, J-WOW quickly understood it was meant to last. As the percussive madness imported from Luanda began informing beatmakers and producers all over the globe, people started reimagining it and giving it new forms and purposes. They cross-bred it with house, techno, dubstep and the list goes on: it became a very strong influence for producers who like to see sweaty bodies on the dance floor.

It was inevitable. J-WOW started recruiting some of his favorite producers from around the globe and challenged them to reinterpret the kuduro phenomenon in their own unique ways. Artists like Bok Bok, Douster, Seiji, Zombies For Money or Canblaster – among many others – heeded his call and came forth with the most eclectic, weird, crazy and awesome blend of pumped-up percussive bangers that shot the kuduro genre to Outer Space and back. The result was the mini-compilation series we lovingly called Hard Ass Sessions.

Three years and six volumes later we bring you this full-fledged compilation, featuring J-WOW’s personal favorites of the series, hand-picked to give you the best possible experience inside the Hard Ass universe. This seasoned DJ and founding member of Buraka Som Sistema selected tunes from Nic Sarno, Melé, Pocz & Pacheko, Poirier and many other members of the Hard Ass family, casting a new light on some of our favorite tunes from the Enchufada catalogue. As an added bonus we’ve reached out to the really cool Hungarian production duo Slap In The Bass and decided to welcome them to the family by including the previously unreleased tune “Tapa”.

The official release date is May 28th but for those of you who are extra hungry for some globalized beats, show up at the release party at Lux, in Lisbon, on May 25th, and you’ll take a free copy with you! Just remember not to show up to late to the party, the CD stock is limited!

Hard Ass Compilation and Launch Party

Here at the Enchufada headquarters we like to keep busy. We could relax a bit after dropping massive singles and EPs such as T.Williams‘ ‘Can We’, Youthless‘ ‘Monsta’, Voxels‘ ‘Nasty’ or Savage Skulls‘ ‘No1 Spot’, but that’s not really our style. Keeping that in mind, we’d like to fill you in on a couple of surprises we’re preparing to keep that global bass party going all year round.

Maybe you’ve already heard that we’ll be releasing the ‘Hard Ass Compilation’, where Buraka Som Sistema founding member J-WOW handpicks his favorite tracks out of three years of awesome club bangers under the Hard Ass Sessions project. After challenging some of our favorite producers from all around the world to reinterpret the kuduro phenomenon and blend it with their own unique set of influences, we finally release a careful selection of these tracks on CD, accompanied by a new addition to the family: the Hungarian duo Slap In The Bass.

Because we couldn’t think of a better way to present this compilation of mutated kuduro gems to the world than with a huge bang, we’re doing the release party on Lisbon’s number one club Lux, on the next episode of our bimonthly residency. New Pocz & Pacheko EP

Next up we’ve got the dynamic Venzuelan duo Pocz & Pacheko, who impressed us so much with their Tuki Love track that we knew we had to keep working together. The guys have been very busy bringing the Caracas danceable phenomenon Tuki to the wider world, the house-inspired percussive madness that’s been heating up the barrios since the 90s. It goes without saying that we immediately connected with the boys’ mission, as we remember our own mission to bring Angolan kuduro to the world stage.

The similarities don’t end there. As Buraka enlisted the support of the genre’s undisputed king DJ Znobia, Pocz & Pacheko called up the talented DJ Yirvin, the DJ and producer behind the origin of the style we call tuki. And because they’re trying to make this new record something extra-special, they’ve let us know that another Caracas heavyweight is giving his priceless input: Cardopusher.

Last but not least: because we feel there’s definitely some history in the making here, the guys are preparing a documentary about the tuki scene, by interviewing some of its key players and taking us on a tour around the Venezuelan capital, where this fascinating hybrid was born. We’re already getting a bit too excited just by writing these lines, so we’ll leave it at that so we don’t spill the beans too early. If Buraka‘s sophomore album was a celebration of life through a fierce mix of crazy global bass rhythms and vibrating synth work, the new single is the focal point of that energy, aimed straight at the dancefloor. Consistently eliciting such a fierce and riotous response during the band’s live shows throughout Europe and the Americas, the choice to release Tira o Pe as the 3rd album single was one that was made by the fans.

The stripped-down and minimalistic vibe on Tira o Pé‘s takes you to an imaginary underground techno club in Angola, where the drinks are cheap, the room is dark and no one stops dancing until morning. Keeping that dark and danceable vibe in mind, we’ve asked three young talented beatmakers to rework the track and give us their own unique take on the global ghetto revolution, but we also kept the needs of adventurous DJs and producers in mind.

So mark May 7th on your calendars and get ready for the stunning JWLS, Jay Fay and Roby Howler remixes, as well as the instrumental and acapella versions, as Buraka Som Sistema stir up the lusophone melting pot once again.

Ackeejuice Rockers is the name of the project born in 2007 that proudly mixes the best of dancehall, moombahton and electronic music, bringing these sounds to all the best clubs in Italy. The project was created by the brilliant minds of DJ King P and Ali Selecta, two Italian veteran DJs with more than 10 years of experience in the scene. The mix created by warm sounds of hip-hop music and synthetic sounds of electro is the starting point from where Ackeejuice Rockers draw inspiration. Cracking pace and high BPM are broken off by dubstep and moombahton segments without compromising the hype.

King P‘s background comes from the 90’s hip hop scene, in the middle of all the scratching, crews and battles. From 2002 to 2006 he started his reggae project called King P Sound, that led him to the main stages of the Italian and European reggae scene. He already has 4 mix CDs distributed in the Italian territory, one of those produced with Esa a.k.a. El Prez, who has collaborated with Ackeejuice Rockers as well. Ali Selecta decided to start his experience into music world in 2007 by DJing in jazz pubs. His sessions were all about soul, playing European niche artists and exploring difficult sounds with magnetic results. The versatility displayed in his sessions and his constant research led him to play in the best clubs of Northeastern Italy. From soul to hip hop, the BPM started to climb with more and more sycophantic beats.

Besides DJing, Ackeejuice Rockers have also had major success with their productions. Their tracks and bootlegs have surfaced in the blog world from Mad Decent to Generation Bass, Tropical Bass, Crossfaded Bacon, and many more. After delivering many tracks for free download and building up a fan base, Ackeejuice Rockers have now signed on with Overcooked Records exclusively, where they have delivered their debut EP, ‘Freeze’.  Their EP earned major support from the likes of Munchi, Jay Robinson, Nic Sarno, Flore, LaTourette and many more. A lot is in store for Ackeejuice Rockers in 2012, with a new EP already set for release in April which features a collaboration with Javier Estrada, make sure to keep an eye out for this Italian duo.

As you should probably know by now, we released T.Williams’ awesome ‘Can We’ EP a week ago and everyone’s been going crazy about it ever since. After being praised on BBC Radio 1 by DJs Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw, and being appointed by Time Out London as one of the top DJs for 2012, the T.Williams fever seems to be in full swing as ‘Can We’ has been dominating Junodownload’s Singles Chart for the last few days!
