We told you in our last newsletter that PAUS offered a bbq & gig to their fans and friends early this month. The band opened the garage where they rehearse and what a great ideia to showcase their newly EP “É UMA ÁGUA”. The sun was there, friends where there, rock & roll was there and of course… beer was there!!

ENCHUFADA POP-UP SHOP
On June 21 Enchufada will present its first POP-UP SHOP in Bairro Alto, Lisbon. For 5 hours, and 5 hours only, there will be a selective and exclusive selection of our releases and artists merch. Plus some of our finest will also be there.
Since 2003 Enchufada has been shaping the sound of Lisbon’s diversity specializing in urban sounds and introducing musical projects as 1 Week Project, Macacos do Chinês and the unavoidable Buraka Som Sistema.
If we wish to point out a formula we could say it’s the need to spread a local reality to the world that has been driven us.

PAUS “É UMA ÁGUA” EP OUT JUNE 21
According to the band itself PAUS there’s “no reason, no concept, no patience for bios.”
And they also say that “PAUS play together because they like each other and they need to make music. PAUS is the result of what these 4 people do with a couple of bears and their instruments.”
They also ask us to “forget all their members past and present bands. This is Joaquim Albergaria, Hélio Morais, Makoto Yagyu and João Pereira doing something new and fresh. And to understand what it is, the best way is to catch them live or listen to their debut EP.”
Dia 21 de Junho PAUS é feito disco com o nome “É Uma Água” e a Enchufada apadrinha uma das estreias que mais curiosidade tem suscitado no meio musical. À venda nas lojas FNAC do país. Dia 22 o EP está disponível nas lojas digitais do costume.
“É Uma Água” will be released in 21st of June and Enchufada is proud to be the home of one of the bands everyone’s talking about in the Portuguese music scene. And on June 22nd you can buy it at the usual digital shops.

BURAKA SOM SISTEMA SUPPORT THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM WITH A BIG PARTY
Buraka Som Sistema showed their support to the National Football Team who’s leaving to South Africa for the World Championship with an unique live show. With tracks like Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance”, J-Wow’s “O Dedo”, “Gang Bang” feat Blaya (included on “Blood Diamond” Mixtape), the inevitable “Kalameba (Wegue Wegue)” and “Sound of Kuduro” the audience danced non-stop. Saved for the end was a big explosion of confetti that we could swear made the Black Eye Peas staff go nutts for a while…

Buraka Som Sistema covers Neneh Cherry’s ‘Buffalo Stance’
Dr. Martens presents the behind the scenes footage for Portuguese electronic band Buraka Som Sistema who’ve recorded their very own version of Neneh Cherry’s ‘Buffalo Stance ‘
The track is the 4th release of 10 cult classic songs, which have been re-recorded by ten contemporary artists in celebration of Dr. Martens 50th Anniversary.
The Buraka Som Sistema full track and video (Directed by Anthony Burrill) will be available to download for free via the Dr. Martens website (www.drmartens.com) from May 21st 2010.

BURAKA SOM SISTEMA ARE BACK ON THE ROAD
Ok! So we’re not putting in your face all the reasons that made Buraka Som Sistema “The band” to watch live since the mythic shows at Club Mercado, in Lisbon. But if for some reason you’re one of the few that still didn’t get the chance to take part on their sonic trip, here’s your chance!
After a six month break, the group comes back with a renewed will to share with all of us not only the songs we know from the Black Diamond album and the Buraka To The World EP, but also some other songs and remixes we’ve heard in FabricLive as well as “B” sides from singles like “IC 19” and “Aqui para Vocês”.
From what we’ve heard at the rehearsals (somewhere around Lisbon) we dare to say that they studied very well their past lectures, but since they always liked to avoid the easiest paths, we can say that the new season starting in May at “Queima das Fitas do Porto” will be loaded with musical surprises.
These last six months revealed pretty productive for each of their members: Riot created Faster Music, a Drum’n Bass, Dubstep and Grime label. J–WOW stepped into a some hyperactive work doing remixes and also brought us two singles, “Klang” – through Deadly People and “O Dedo” through Mad Decent. Conductor went on an trip to Luanda and came back with his second record from his Hip-Hop project “Conjunto Ngonguenga” and as for Kalaf, he kept dedicated to his weekly chronicles at “O Publico” newspaper.
And Buraka themselves still managed to present us with their brilliant BBC Essential Mix last April gathering five star reviews from the international press and opinion-makers.

ROULET’S “KITAMANDA” IS OUT TOMORROW AND WE HAVE A FREE DOWNLOAD FOR YOU
The single is out tomorrow but the “Kitamanda” video is already in everyone’s mouth. Most blogs are pointing Roulet as a Buraka Som Sistema disciple which is good – but he’s much more than that. And the reaction has been unanimous: everyone likes and wants more!!

“KITAMANDA” IS COMING OUT
Roulet’s first single - Kitamanda, will be out digitally on April the 13th.
Assuming the legacy of Buraka Som Sistema, Roulet shows in Kitamanda his own particular interpretation of kuduro and features remixes from J WOW, Mr. Gasparov and Girl Unit.

But who’s Roulet?
Roulet is indeed Tiago Trole, a 20 year old arts student from Lisboa – Portugal.
In 2006 he decided to start producing in a very personal way, letting his music be the mirror of his state of mind.
The fact that Roulet was one of the first artists assuming the legacy of Buraka Som Sistema, but on a very personal and characteristic way, led him to be invited by Buraka themselves to have a Remix in a Fabric compilation.
As a consequence of the good reviews around that participation and due to his high production rhythm, Enchufada decided to release his first single – “Kitamanda” in the first 2010 semester.
“Kitamanda” shows pretty well what Roulet represents as a very promising producer and features remixes from J WOW, Girl Unit and Mr. Gasparov.
During Buraka Som Sistema’s spare times, J-WOW channels his hyperactivity into making remixes and original songs. There’s a lot going on in his agenda for the next couple of months.
Girl Unit is affiliate with Night Slugs, one of the Labels and Clubnight that’ll define London’s music future, along with L – VIS 1990 and Bok Bok.
Mr. Gasparov featured in a Soul Jazz compilation and to quote FactMag that: “’1975’ is Gasparov’s highest profile release to date, and it’s a bit of a cracker…Recommended.”.
You’ll sure hear a lot from Roulet in the years to come.
J-WOW WINTER MUSIC CONFERENCE REPORT!
Last week I visited Miami and the winter music conference for the first time and I got to say that apart from some corny house swimming pool party’s with bongos.. it’s pretty fuc*ing cool!!! 5 days of intense clubbing and all sorts of musical activities (yeah right!!)
I played 3 shows and they were all cool.. both from the crowd point of view and from the rest of the artists that I was sharing the bill with.. people like L-Vis 1990, Kingdom, Riva Starr, Annie Mac, Dj Mehdi, Brodinski, Nadastrom, Trouble & Bass, Congorock, Toy Selectah, etc… A mind refreshing experience!
Most of the people, specially in Portugal, have a weird idea about what the music conference is… everyone instantly relates it with bad commercial dance music, and I have to admit that there’s definitely a lot of that happening… but there’s also a lot of good weird and futuristic music getting played around.

J-WOW – “KLANG” IS OUT NOW!!
J-Wow’s first single, Klang, is out today on Deadly Records. Klang is a beautiful, ambient and melodic departure from the Buraka sound, with dreamy pads and a delicate buzzy bass. It’s the beginning of a deeper, more personal sound, with songs built on layers of melodies. This single is available digitally, and/or if you act fast, you can get your mitts on some super limited vinyl we’ve had pressed up. BUY BUY BUY!

BSS Kalemba (Wegue Wegue) hits #1 XMAS Chart in Spain
While Rage Against the Machine reached #1 in the UK Buraka Som Sistema reached the peak in Spain!
The song reached the charts in late September in #40 and 7 weeks later #1 is the new home for the Buraka song.
