BRENMAR
track “Waiting On”
- A little bit about yourself: I make hybrid club music. It’s music that combines elements from ghetto house/juke, hiphop, R&B, chicago house, and UK funky/house to make something special.
- About this challenge: I was totally up for it, it’s more or less what I do already anyway.
- Which Kuduro elements inspired you?: The 140 bpm was the first thing that I put down, most kuduro is that tempo, so that was a given. A lot of southern hiphop is also 140 bpm which is where the vocal hook is from. The arp synths are very house which help balance the more aggressive elements, I thought it would be fun to play with a cheekier timbre since most kuduro is very atonal and hard.
- 5 songs you’re into lately: Diamond – I’m One One; Mele – What’s The 411; Fabolous – Rollin; YC – Racks; Jhene Aiko – Stranger (Nguzunguzu Remix).
KRY WOLF
track “Picadinho Di Pedalina”
- A little bit about yourself: We basically make uk bass music but we make a fairly broad range of it. We are influenced by so many different sounds/experiences that sometimes we big party tracks, sometimes we make really experimental stuff. Depends how we feeling!
- About this challenge: Massive excitement! We’ve been following Buraka since there first show at Bestival and was blown away by their energy. So to be asked to do this project was a great honour. We just wanted to do the project justice!
- Which Kuduro elements inspired you?: We love the crazy percussion and how raw kuduro is.. We’ve taken those elements and ethos and given it a Kry Wolf twist.
- 5 songs you’re into lately: Buraka – Hangover – Song and Vid are crazy. Suits our more party sets; SBTRKT – Wildfire; Kry Wolf – Lost in Treme – Mr Tickle remix; Brenmar – High; DHS – House of god – Mele booty
CARDOPUSHER
track “Tu Bizcochito”
- A little bit about yourself: I started making music around 10 years ago and have been messing around with different genres since then. As i grew up in South America i have a massive influence of latin music in my work so basically my idea is to combine this sound in everything i do. I don´t like to be pigeonholed in a specific genre, so for each release i do im trying to come with something fresh and keeping my own stamp.
- About this challenge: I was working in a track i though it could fit into the Enchufada sound, then i saw a post by J-Wow around twitter saying he was looking for new tracks so i decided to put a big effort to finish it and after i sent it to him. When i got asked if i was into releasing it on Enchufada i was stocked as this is one of my favourite labels, also Buraka Som Sistema has been essential for me. Im honoured!
- Which Kuduro elements inspired you?: Definitely the percussive part of kuduro influenced me a lot. Also the tropical vibes in it makes me feel like im summer at anytime. For me these elements were enough to do my own interpretation!
- 5 songs you’re into lately: Kirino – El Choque; Dubbel Dutch – Madloopz (Dutty Artz); Diamond Bass – Nomada (Enchufada); SBTRKT – Look At Stars (Machinedrum remix) (Young Turks); Zwishchenwelt- Clairvoyant (Rephlex)
SCHLACHTHOFBRONX
track “Backup Run”
- A little bit about yourself: we do various types of dance music, as long as it has a certain vibe (some call it “balls”) we are game. when producin and playin live we always try to balance the tracks so most women start wining and the boys get their share too, till everybody is wilin out in the end.
- About this challenge: we always loved kuduro since we first heard of it through the buraka guys, so this was great to be a part of, of course. we have been influenced by that rhythm and aesthetic in earlier tracks aswell, so it wasn’t completely new to us.
- Which Kuduro elements inspired you?: at this track we wanted to have a really huge build up with lots of sirens etc, a bit as a contrast to the kuduro beat. it works perfectly in the club so far…!
- 5 songs you’re into lately: Dj Assault – yo relatives; Leftside &Shaggy – jump around; Sir Mix-a-Lot – posse on broadway; That new upcoming track from Redlight and Miss Dynamite; Gnucci Banana – famalam jam
